About me
Annie Patyk, AMFT
I believe that there is nothing wrong with you. While clinical labels can sometimes be helpful, they often shift shame and blame onto the individual. In reality, it is our experiences and the environment we grow up in that shape how we feel and respond to the world. I believe your symptoms (thoughts, feelings, and behaviors) are purposeful, and that you do everything you do for a good reason.
When we work together, we will work to identify the filters through which you view yourself and the world around you, understand and appreciate why they developed, and move toward seeing things clearly for what they are. By understanding what’s beneath the surface, you can begin to relate to your emotions in a different way, and start to make conscious choices aligned with your values. I will act as a guide, but I believe you already have everything you need to heal and experience life fully.
To support you through this process, I primarily use relational and psychodynamic approaches. I also integrate techniques from Internal Family Systems and Somatic Therapy.
But beyond all the therapy jargon, my own experience with anxiety, perfectionism, and always striving for the ideal allows me to understand how you’re feeling from the inside out. I will celebrate your ambitions and abilities while simultaneously spotlighting what may be working against you.
Outside of the therapy world, I love to practice yoga, watch good and bad TV, and spend time exploring all the nature California has to offer. While my heart belongs to the Bay Area now, my therapeutic style reflects my New Jersey roots (no BS, and plenty of humor).
